NCRC's Spring Forth was started in 2021 as a replacement event for the COVID-19-canceled Run for the Roses 5K. Run for the Roses returned in 2022, and Spring Forth enters its fourth year in 2024. What is NCRC's Spring Forth? Basically, it's a scavenger hunt photo challenge that celebrates the outdoors and our public parks. If you meet the easy challenge, you win a chance for a prize in an April 21 drawing. Starting this year, you are welcome to participate as a team (two or more people) if you would prefer that option (A participant registers on behalf of the team, and that person posts all of the team's photos). It's a family-friendly event!

We (the North Carolina Roadrunners Club) are a nonprofit group, and our races and community service events raise money for other nonprofit groups. The beneficiaries again for this year's NCRC's Spring Forth will be Girls on the Run of the Triangle and the City of Oaks Foundation. For this event, 100% of the registration fees will be split between the two charities. Participants can also make additional donations to one or both organizations. Over three years, this event has raised a donation total of almost $3,000.

How does NCRC's Spring Forth work? Full details can be found on our How It Works page. Here are the steps:
  • First, register on this website (April 13 deadline) to participate as an individual or a team. If participating as a team, choose a fun posting name for your team. Only registered participants can post photos.
  • Review the rules of this challenge on the How It Works page, including the 10 categories for snapshot photos (click on Photo Galleries above to see the categories), which are easiest to find while visiting a park or parks. Photos must be taken outdoors and not at your residence.
  • You can begin taking photos as soon as you register. You don't have to wait until the event week (April 13-20). No photos can be posted before the event starts. Total event time (including taking and posting photos) should be two to three hours.
  • Each day of the event, a new photo gallery will open and will remain open throughout the week. Two galleries, Sign of Spring and Public Park, will be open throughout the week. Feel free to also post your photos on Instagram or other social media using the #ncrcsspringforth hashtag.
  • You must post photos during the week in at least seven of the galleries, including Sign of Spring, to be eligible for the prize drawing on April 21. This year's prize donors are listed on our Donors page (This year will feature a greater variety of prizes, with fewer running-related).
Previous years' photos are available on this website's Past Photos tab.
